DO YOU CYCLE REGULARLY?
Would you like a free massage?
If you cycle for at least 30 mins on three or more days a week (yes, that little) and would like to help assess the effects of massage on cycling performance as part of an undergraduate dissertation at University of Cumbria in Lancaster, I'd love to hear from you.
You should be able to use your own bike (on fixed rollers) for the testing sessions, although there are static bikes available if you prefer. Time commitment will be 1 hour (approx) on 3 separate occasions, 2 to 4 weeks apart, although the cycling part will only be around 30 mins at your own pace. It is anticipated that the sessions will be in January and February, although brief interviews / health screening and equipment familiarisation sessions (included in the above time estimate) may be scheduled for December, depending on response and availability.
Any cyclists are invited to participate, whether you cycle for fun, commuting or competitively. Only age restriction is that participants must be 18 years of age or over. Prior to one of the tests, you will receive a massage of approximately 15 minutes' duration. In addition to this, there will be a free draw for all participants, with the opportunity to win a massage for yourself or a friend.

£50 MILLION BONANZA
The BIG Lottery Fund has announced that Sustrans’ Connect2 has been crowned the winner of The People’s £50 Million Lottery contest; the biggest ever award to be decided by a public vote.
Sustrans’ Connect2 is a UK-wide project that will create new cycling and walking routes to improve local travel in 79 communities across the country.
On receiving the news they had won John Grimshaw, CEO and founder of Sustrans said: “To say I am delighted is such an understatement – this is fantastic news for Sustrans. But, more importantly, it is fantastic for the 79 communities and many other partners and local authorities across the UK with whom we have been working for the last two years. We are extremely grateful to everyone who has supported us, but the hard work starts now to build those bridges, tunnels, crossings and networks of paths. Ultimately the real winners will be those millions of people who will now be able to Connect2 their shops, schools, workplaces and each other every day!”
Four projects of national importance went head-to-head in a bid to win the massive £50 million grant, each receiving an initial grant of £500,000 to invest in their project’s development. The other three projects in the running for the grant were:
Eden Project: The Edge
Sherwood: The Living Legend
Black Country Urban Park
