Lancaster to York Ride of The Roses

Hearts First events are a fantastic way for you to look after own heart while raising funds to help the British Heart Foundation continue with its vital life-saving work.

The Ride

Push your stamina to the limit on the Ride of the Roses, a challenging 100 mile bike ride between two of the UK’s most historic and vibrant cities.

Setting off from Lancaster University, hundreds of riders will head out across the varied and breathtaking landscapes of Northern England, including the stunning Trough of Bowland, an ‘area of outstanding natural beauty’, Gisburn Forest and the rugged unspoilt scenery of the Yorkshire Dales.

With the majority of the route taking place on rural roads you’ll face some steep gradients and challenging hill climbs before heading through the market town of Ripon in the heart of North Yorkshire then onto the final leg towards the finishing point in the beautiful city of York.

Why do it?

You’ll be taking part in our longest and most challenging bike ride. Only in it’s second year, the Ride of the Roses provides a tough challenge but a truly fabulous route with some spectacular views.

Heart and circulatory disease is the UK’S biggest killer and we need your stamina and fundrasing skills to help save more lives. Coronary heart disease is responsible for approximately one in five deaths in men and one in six deaths in women. Heart disease touches us all. The chances are it has already affected someone you know, so please join in and get sponsored.

The Roses

In the 15th century, a bitter struggle for the English throne was waged between two branches of the same family. Each house was represented by a rose, white for the House of York and red for the House of Lancaster.

All our riders will receive a free  T-Shirt in red or white. Which county will give your allegiance to in your own personal battle to complete the Ride of the Roses?
